10 Gender-Affirming Underwear Brands You'll Love

When I started out, you could count the brands making gender-affirming underwear on one hand. Thankfully, that's changed. And it's one of the best things I've watched happen in this community.

Gender-affirming underwear covers a lot. Gaffs and tucking underwear for those of us who tuck, packing underwear and binders for trans men and transmasculine people, shaping bras and swimwear for plenty of us in between.

My name is Robyn Electra, and I'm the founder of Gaff and Go (more on us below). I spend my days designing gender-affirming underwear, so I pay close attention to who is doing it well. And I can tell you, these are ten brands I think you'll love.

1. GAFF AND GO

I'll start with my own. I founded Gaff and Go after years of tucking with gaffer tape that damaged my skin, because I was certain there had to be a better way.

We make tucking gaffs, tucking swimwear, lingerie, bras and accessories, all purpose-built for trans women, non-binary people and anyone who tucks. The thing I'm proudest of is the tucking swimwear, because swimwear was the hardest thing for me to feel safe in for years.

Best for: trans women and anyone who wants purpose-built tucking underwear, lingerie and swimwear in one place.

2. BOND AND BINDER

While Gaff and Go looks after tucking, Bond and Binder is built for the transmasculine side: chest binders and packing underwear for trans men and non-binary people.

One of the only trans brands based in the north of the UK, with a growing range of products. There's the Magic Max, a corset binder and a two-sided compression top, plus packing underwear now in several colourways. Bond and Binder's campaigns feature real members of the community rather than agency models, which you can read about in this behind-the-scenes look at the latest photoshoot.

If you're after binding or packing rather than tucking, this is the one to look at.

Best for: trans men and transmasculine people who want binding and packing from a trans-led brand.

3. ORIGAMI CUSTOMS

Origami Customs is a Montreal label founded by Rae Hill, run and made entirely by a small team of trans and queer people. Everything is handmade to order.

What sets them apart is free custom sizing on every piece, with no size cap, and a refusal to label anything by gender. They make gaffs, binders, swimwear and lingerie, and they give away thousands of affirming products a year through community partners. Genuinely lovely people doing genuinely good work.

Best for: anyone who wants a custom-fit piece made exactly to their measurements.

4. TOMBOYX

TomboyX, out of Seattle, is one of the biggest names in inclusive underwear, and a certified B Corp. Founders Fran Dunaway and Naomi Gonzalez built it into one of the largest queer-owned underwear brands in the US.

Sizing runs from 3XS all the way to 6X at the same price, which still isn't common enough. They do tucking and packing styles alongside their everyday range, so it's a good all-rounder if you want one brand for most of the drawer.

Best for: anyone wanting everyday basics with inclusive sizing and a few affirming options.

5. PAXSIES

Paxsies is a queer-owned brand based in the Netherlands, founded by Siyen, and a great shout if you're in Europe. They focus on the transmasculine side with all-in-one packing boxers, binders and packers, plus tucking underwear too.

Their packing boxers come with a soft foam packer included, which makes them an easy first step for anyone new to packing. The fabric is mostly biodegradable modal, so they've thought about the planet as well as the fit.

Best for: European readers new to packing who want an all-in-one starting point.

6. SPECTRUM OUTFITTERS

Another British brand, founded in Coventry by Jack and run as a small family business. They came about because safe, well-made binders were so hard to get in the UK without huge shipping costs from the US.

Their binders use a strong non-stretch front for a flat finish with less pressure on your body, and the main fabric is made from recycled ocean plastics. Sizing goes up to 7XL, and they run a binder donation scheme too.

Best for: UK binders who want a well-made, eco-conscious binder without US shipping.

7. URBODY

Urbody, a US brand founded by Mere Abrams and Anna Graham Thorpe, calls what it makes functional gender-affirming shapewear, which is a nice way of putting it. The range sits across the spectrum, from casual tucking thongs and briefs to compression tops that land somewhere between a binder and a sports bra.

That middle-ground compression piece is the one people rave about, because it's comfortable enough for everyday wear without the full intensity of a binder. A good option if you want shaping that flexes with how you feel day to day.

Best for: anyone wanting lighter compression that sits between a binder and a sports bra.

8. DYS4ICK

For my Australian readers, Dys4ick is trans-owned and designed in Australia, founded in Brisbane by Alex Kent, which means no waiting on slow international shipping. Everything is made from lived experience rather than guesswork.

They cover both packing and tucking underwear, with a focus on everyday comfort and affirmation. They also put $2 from every garment toward trans men's top surgery in Australia, which is a lovely thing to build into a business.

Best for: Australian readers who want trans-owned packing or tucking close to home.

9. PLAY OUT APPAREL

Play Out, founded by Abby Sugar and based in New York, makes gender-neutral underwear with a pouch-optional approach, so you can wear the same style flat-front or not. The prints are bold and the sizing is generous.

It's less of a specialist tucking or packing brand and more of an everyday option for anyone who finds the men's-and-women's split frustrating. Sometimes you just want comfy, colourful undies that don't put you in a box.

Best for: anyone wanting bold, gender-neutral everyday underwear with no labels.

10. TUCKITUPPP

Tuckituppp was founded in Tampa, Florida by Josie Azocar, a trans woman who couldn't find a gaff that worked and decided to make her own. It's trans-owned and unapologetically joyful.

They do gaffs in a real range of styles, from thong to G-string to thicker straps, and have branched into bikini tops too. The whole brand has a fun, confident energy that comes straight from its founder.

Best for: anyone who wants a gaff in a fun range of styles and colours.

FINDING WHAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU

The best gender-affirming underwear is simply the piece that makes you feel like yourself, and there's more choice now than there has ever been. Start with what you need most, whether that's tucking, packing, binding or shaping, and build from there.

If tucking is your starting point, our tucking collection is a good place to begin, and our how to tuck guide walks you through it safely. If you have a question about sizing or where to start, our FAQs are a good starting point, or you can get in touch directly.
